Bed Sizes
Bed sizes can vary greatly according to design, but they are made to fit standard size beds. The bed sizes chart provides the measurements of the mattress for each type of bed in width x length.
Twin Bed 39 x 75 inches (99 x 190 cm) X-Long Twin 39 x 80 inches (99 x 203 cm) Full Bed 54 x 75 inches (137 x 190 cm) Queen Bed 60 x 80 inches (or 153 x 203 cm) King Bed 76 x 80 inches (or 198 x 203 cm) California King Bed 72 x 84 inches (or 182 x 213 cm)
The actual size of the bed frame will be slightly bigger to accommodate the mattress. When determining how much space the bed will take up in a room, refer to the actual dimensions of the assembled bed. For a mattress and box spring assembled on a bed frame, the size of the mattress will be the actual size of the bed.
Although twin size beds are most commonly used as youth beds or guest room beds, they are offered in the extra long length to accommodate adults and are frequently used in dormitories. In order to get more use out of your child's bed, you may prefer to get a full bed size to give the child room to spread out as he or she grows.
If you order standard size mattresses, the fitted sheet size will be the same measurements as those listed above for all size beds. However, if you purchase a quilt top mattress or an extra thick mattress, you will need sheets made especially for that particular size mattress.
One of the biggest mistakes consumers make when purchasing a bed is picking a size that's too small for comfortable sleep. A double or full bed is not suitable for a married couple. Take your sleeping habits into consideration when shopping. Queen size beds work for most couples, but if you need more personal space when you sleep, you may be better off with a king bed. A single person who prefers to spread out and take up more room may also prefer a queen bed.
The California King size is four inches narrower and four inches longer. For those of you who sleep with your pets at the foot of the bed, this bed will give you all the room you need.
And, don't forgot, one of the most important things when choosing the right bed sizes is making sure you have ample room to fit the bed. Make sure to measure your room and leave space to walk between the bed, hallway, closet and bathroom. Allow enough space for other furniture, for drawers to pull out, and for a good view of the television, if you plan to have one. It's much easier to plan ahead and find the right bed sizes than to be cramped with the wrong furniture.
